Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 12,13-21
Someone in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, tell my brother to share the inheritance with me.”
He replied to him, “Friend, who appointed me as your judge and arbitrator?”
Then he said to the crowd, “Take care to guard against all greed, for though one may be rich, one’s life does not consist of possessions.”
Then he told them a parable. “There was a rich man whose land produced a bountiful harvest.
He asked himself, ‘What shall I do, for I do not have space to store my harvest?’
And he said, ‘This is what I shall do: I shall tear down my barns and build larger ones. There I shall store all my grain and other goods
and I shall say to myself, “Now as for you, you have so many good things stored up for many years, rest, eat, drink, be merry!”
But God said to him, ‘You fool, this night your life will be demanded of you; and the things you have prepared, to whom will they belong?’
Thus will it be for the one who stores up treasure for himself but is not rich in what matters to God.”
Greed impoverishes you
1. Sharing. He who does not know how to share is poor. It is important to know this, since it is in sharing that one becomes richer in life. When you close yourself off, the only thing you achieve is to impoverish yourself. I am not only referring to money, I am also referring to everything that involves your life; it is essential to share your knowledge, your experiences and your ears. Life is made to share and get richer with others and not from others.
2. Nothing is certain. There are people who seem to be driven only by their wallets. And I can assure you that I have met poor people with plenty of money in their pockets yet they were poor because they were so sad and lonely that they wanted to buy friendship or companionship. There are things that money cannot buy. When we think of material possessions nothing is certain, they come and go, and one has to learn to withstand any circumstance. But remember that the love of your son or daughter, the love of your life partner or the guidance of a true friend is so strong that it touches your soul deeply. So, you should count on that.
3. Be wise. Learn to live life one day at a time. Money is a means to live, but it is not our life. Do not negotiate with this or otherwise you will learn the hard way the bitterness of life. There are things money cannot buy or solve. So, remember some things are non-negotiable: the love of your children, the time spent as a family, the conservations with your spouse, a chat with your best friend, closeness and conversations with God, moments spent with your parents, time for yourself.
These are the most precious moments in life, do not waste them.
God bless you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. And don’t forget, Heaven is our goal!
