John 1, 47-51

by Fr. Luis A. Zazano

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John 1, 47-51

Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him and said of him,
“Here is a true child of Israel.
There is no duplicity in him.”
Nathanael said to him, “How do you know me?”
Jesus answered and said to him,
“Before Philip called you, I saw you under the fig tree.”
Nathanael answered him,
“Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the King of Israel.”
Jesus answered and said to him,
“Do you believe
because I told you that I saw you under the fig tree?
You will see greater things than this.”
And he said to him, “Amen, amen, I say to you,
you will see heaven opened
and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.”

You’ll see greater things

1 Michael. He is the head of the heavenly army who protects us from the devil. It is important to turn to St. Michael when we face the temptations of the devil or when you feel that the devil is trying to get into your life. Turn to St. Michael and ask him to protect you against all evil.

2 Gabriel. He is the heavenly messenger. How much we have to ask of him! When we must say something important, we should turn to St. Gabriel to help us find the appropriate moment to say what’s important to the person we must speak to. It is St. Gabriel who reminds us that Christians must be announcers of the truth.

3 Raphael means “God heals.” St. Raphael is the patron saint of travelers, health, nurses, physicians and medical workers, happy meetings and love relationships. That’s why, in your prayer today, pray for your family and your daily commute, pray as you take your children to school or as you go to work. Pray for your sweetheart and for those close to you.

How beautiful it is to know that the archangels are with us to encourage us and help us continue to fight for life and lead us to Heaven. Remember, Heaven is our goal!

God bless you and be with you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit
