God Loves You: God insists: Trust Me!

God Loves You

The Lord asks us, in many ways, to trust Him.

The Lord asks us, in many ways, to trust Him.

In the book of Psalms, He tells us the same thing over and over again:

“Commit your way to the Lord, trust in Him, that He will act” (Ps 37: 5).

As an echo of the entire Old Testament, Saint Peter exhorts us in his first letter:

“Give all your worries to Him, because He cares for you” (1Pet 5: 7).

And these are just some examples. Why is the Lord so insistent that we trust Him?

The first sin was mistrust and pride: «You will not die in any way; for God knows that the day you eat from the tree your eyes will be opened and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” (Gen 3:4-5).  And they believed it! Since then, temptation to distrust God is always present in our hearts.

To be happy in this life (with the sort of happiness we can have here), we need to trust God, and to trust we must be humble: recognize that with our intelligence we cannot encompass God’s wisdom; we cannot understand all His plans;  but, at the same time, we must be totally sure that our Father loves us endlessly and He has no interest in deceiving or harming us. He wants the best for each one of us, his children.  Therefore, we can and should fully trust Him.

Lord, since the beginning of history, we have pierced our hearts with the thorn of pride and mistrust, and that is why You repeat to us over and over again to trust You; to leave our care and our concerns in Your hands, because You take care of us at all times.   Lord, make us truly trust in You; that we may expect from You everything we need for our happiness and salvation.
