Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 19, 41-44
As Jesus drew near Jerusalem,
he saw the city and wept over it, saying,
“If this day you only knew what makes for peace–
but now it is hidden from your eyes.
For the days are coming upon you
when your enemies will raise a palisade against you;
they will encircle you and hem you in on all sides.
They will smash you to the ground and your children within you,
and they will not leave one stone upon another within you
because you did not recognize the time of your visitation.”
Crying for the homeland
1) Crying. Jesus cries for his people and his homeland. This brings to mind those who are longing for their country and their own people. Today, so many people have had to flee their homes, and they suffer because they are far away from their families. They have given up on their dreams and left everything behind.
2) Make peace. This is what we are called to do, to work towards peace. As citizens and neighbors, we are called to keep the peace. Today, let us commit to making peace with others. Only our God can give us peace, but He can use us to create peace in this world. Think about our war heroes. They gave their lives for their land, for our homeland, and fought to keep our country free. Reflect on how you can bring peace to your community. 3) Time. Be aware of how God continues to guide society through signs. God constantly blesses our land and we do not recognize it. Today, God comes to you in the poor, through bountiful harvests, and through the generosity of other people. God comes to you in your country, your community, and in your heart. Allow Him to build a country of justice and peace through you.
