Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Mark 9, 2-13
Jesus took Peter, James, and John
and led them up a high mountain apart by themselves.
And he was transfigured before them,
and his clothes became dazzling white,
such as no fuller on earth could bleach them.
Then Elijah appeared to them along with Moses,
and they were conversing with Jesus.
Then Peter said to Jesus in reply,
“Rabbi, it is good that we are here!
Let us make three tents:
one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
He hardly knew what to say, they were so terrified.
Then a cloud came, casting a shadow over them;
then from the cloud came a voice,
“This is my beloved Son. Listen to him.”
Suddenly, looking around, the disciples no longer saw anyone
but Jesus alone with them.
As they were coming down from the mountain,
he charged them not to relate what they had seen to anyone,
except when the Son of Man had risen from the dead.
So they kept the matter to themselves,
questioning what rising from the dead meant.
Then they asked him,
“Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”
He told them, “Elijah will indeed come first and restore all things,
yet how is it written regarding the Son of Man
that he must suffer greatly and be treated with contempt?
But I tell you that Elijah has come
and they did to him whatever they pleased,
as it is written of him.”
Transfigure yourself by listening to God and feeling good
1) He took them to a mount. The mountain is the place where Jesus talks to God the Father, it’s the place where we can come together with God and return having been transformed. Perhaps, your mount may have been a retreat or a mass or a close encounter with the Word. That mount is what you have to look for in order to talk to God and transfigure yourself. Find that moment during your day which allows you to listen to God, your Father. Only you can look for that place and that time. Maybe it’s a chapel where you feel happy every time you go, or maybe a mass in which the priest moves your heart or simply
that little moment in the day when you stand in front of a cross or an image or statue of the Virgin Mary that moves you deeply. But don’t stop looking for that place where heaven and earth meet within you.
2) How good it feels here. When we experience God in our life, we feel an internal change, that’s true conversion, and sometimes we want to stay there, where we have had that close encounter with God. I think that sooner or later we all experience that mount where there is a little piece of heaven.
3) Remembering to be able to proclaim. When you decide to be an apostle, go out to announce not only what you have learnt in a theology course, go out to announce your experience of heaven with God, the moment when you found Him, talked to Him and listened to Him in your life. Always remember that something good is on the way! God bless you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
