Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 4, 24-30
Jesus said to the people in the synagogue at Nazareth:
“Amen, I say to you,
no prophet is accepted in his own native place.
Indeed, I tell you, there were many widows in Israel
in the days of Elijah
when the sky was closed for three and a half years
and a severe famine spread over the entire land.
It was to none of these that Elijah was sent,
but only to a widow in Zarephath in the land of Sidon.
Again, there were many lepers in Israel
during the time of Elisha the prophet;
yet not one of them was cleansed, but only Naaman the Syrian.”
When the people in the synagogue heard this,
they were all filled with fury.
They rose up, drove him out of the town,
and led him to the brow of the hill
on which their town had been built,
to hurl him down headlong.
But he passed through the midst of them and went away.
No prophet is accepted in his own native place
1) He said to the crowd. In life you will run into many people, and many will give their opinion about you and your life, just as many will judge you. But few will accompany you in your process. Jesus is clear about that and manifests it. This should lead you and me to understand that the multitude is not our objective. It’s not that we are looking for followers, because today they will lift us up and tomorrow they will pull us down. The essence is to live in God, knowing in your heart what you are doing. Don’t let the crowd make you dizzy.
2) They were all filled with fury. It’s true that not all of us like to be told the truth, but we must learn to speak the truth and accept it. Perhaps it’s hard for you to express what you are going through, and sometimes people around you don’t help you to be a better person, or to be happy. If this is the case, you need to tell them what you are feeling and experiencing. But on the other hand, what may happen is that you say too much, or too passionately and without thinking carefully in advance. This can also complicate situations a bit since you can lose the focus of things. Learn the art of saying things so that your words are truthful and serene, and thus can be heard by others.
3) He went on his way. You will always have challenges, and even more when you have a mission to fulfil in life, a path to follow. A path that God set out for you and has given you the grace to follow. Don’t be afraid of those who want to interfere in your life; you are with God and if you’re sure of yourself and of the mission God has given you, go ahead. Many will want to bring you down, but God is with you. Don’t give up because if your mission comes from God, it’s protected. And remember that something good is on the way!
God bless you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit
