Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John 13, 16-20

When Jesus had washed the disciples’ feet, he said to them:
“Amen, amen, I say to you, no slave is greater than his master
nor any messenger greater than the one who sent him.
If you understand this, blessed are you if you do it.
I am not speaking of all of you.
I know those whom I have chosen.
But so that the Scripture might be fulfilled,
The one who ate my food has raised his heel against me.
From now on I am telling you before it happens,
so that when it happens you may believe that I AM.
Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever receives the one I send
receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me.”

You are a server, not a servant

1) Servers. Today Jesus invites us to be His servers, people who wash our brethren’s feet, in the sense that we may help to make their path more bearable, help them to walk along in the path of life.  To be a server is just that, to help others to solve their problems, to help make other people’s path smoother, help others keep walking in life. This is your calling.

2) Not a servant. Jesus has called you to serve others and not to be a servant. Because if you take on the attitude of a servant, you can lose your personality, you can become a photocopy of another person, or stop being you. The service you give others is a result of your freedom, you do it not because you are compelled, but because you want to. The servant is not free and depends on someone else. You have a beautiful life to lead, you have plenty to give others, and there are a lot of people who expect help from you and who know what you can give. You must have a clear idea of what you can give, but without forgetting who you are.

3) Happy. Jesus reminds you again that His greatest desire is for you to be happy. Knowing yourself for what you are and giving yourself to others, you will achieve great things; among them that little bit of happiness that will be complete in heaven. Don’t stop giving yourself and be generous with your time and listening to others.  You will find the clues to happiness inside yourself and in others; serve and discover the best things in life. And never forget that something good is on the way!

God bless you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
