Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John 14, 7-14
Jesus said to his disciples:
“If you know me, then you will also know my Father.
From now on you do know him and have seen him.”
Philip said to Jesus,
“Master, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us.”
Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you for so long a time
and you still do not know me, Philip?
Whoever has seen me has seen the Father.
How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?
Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me?
The words that I speak to you I do not speak on my own.
The Father who dwells in me is doing his works.
Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me,
or else, believe because of the works themselves.
Amen, amen, I say to you,
whoever believes in me will do the works that I do,
and will do greater ones than these,
because I am going to the Father.
And whatever you ask in my name, I will do,
so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
If you ask anything of me in my name, I will do it.”
To know is to love
1) To know: Faith is a path of struggles and also of growth. Faith is also meeting; getting together with others so that you grow with others and towards others. You never know others completely, nor do you know yourself entirely, for that matter, because human beings are a mystery. We cannot even give certainties about our future attitudes because we do not know what will go through our minds in the future. Humans are dynamic beings, but God is always in our life and will always be with you.
2) Works: Today you have a lot to do and a lot to give. There are great things that you can do. Stop being worried and get busy! I’m even encouraging you to do something manual, something with your hands… remember when you were a child, and you made a drawing for your mom and dad? Today, you might not be able to do great things, but you may be able to draw your family, as you did when you were a child. That is reassuring, because God works through simple things. Do something simple that will generate peace and life for others.
3) Ask: Today we pray to you, Lord, for everyone. We ask that we may keep on going forward together, so that we may not get discouraged and not give up. Help us to keep our spirits up and to know that we can achieve a lot with very little. May we be able to live our life with your Spirit and continue to grow in faith. Don’t become disheartened, remember God is with us and we can achieve a lot in His presence.
Remember that something good is on the way!
