Matthew 8, 28-34

by Fr. Luis A. Zazano

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew  8:28-34

When Jesus came to the territory of the Gadarenes,
two demoniacs who were coming from the tombs met him.
They were so savage that no one could travel by that road.
They cried out, “What have you to do with us, Son of God?
Have you come here to torment us before the appointed time?”
Some distance away a herd of many swine was feeding.
The demons pleaded with him,
“If you drive us out, send us into the herd of swine.”
And he said to them, “Go then!”
They came out and entered the swine,
and the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea
where they drowned.
The swineherds ran away,
and when they came to the town they reported everything,
including what had happened to the demoniacs.
Thereupon the whole town came out to meet Jesus,
and when they saw him they begged him to leave their district.

Son of God

 1. They were savage. Cruelty is one of the characteristics of the devil, but the person who does not have God within can also disturb the path of others. Some people are vicious, and cause fear in others, whom they set out to destroy and hurt. Don’t let anyone hurt you. Don’t let anyone destroy the treasure that you have within you.

2. Son of God. These demons recognize Jesus. In your life, you must also recognize God. Don’t isolate yourself from others and focus only on your whims. Don’t let your whims torment you. You must allow God to work in you and help you. In life, we grow by allowing others to help us.

3. Go. Today, God wants to remove whatever is ferocious inside you. He wants to remove anything that’s hurting you, those memories that harm and torment you, everything that keeps you from smiling. Let Him take out whatever is caused by the one who divides and causes division within you. Let calmness enter your heart. Abandon yourself in God and let Him help you.

God bless you and be with you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Remember that something good is on the way.
