Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew 24,42-51
Jesus said to his disciples:
“Stay awake!
For you do not know on which day your Lord will come.
Be sure of this: if the master of the house
had known the hour of night when the thief was coming,
he would have stayed awake
and not let his house be broken into.l
So too, you also must be prepared,
for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come.
“Who, then, is the faithful and prudent servant,
whom the master has put in charge of his household
to distribute to them their food at the proper time?
Blessed is that servant whom his master on his arrival finds doing so.
Amen, I say to you, he will put him in charge ofo9 all his property.
But if that wicked servant says to himself, ‘My master is long delayed,’
and begins to beat his fellow servants,
and eat and drink with drunkards,
the servant’s master will come on an unexpected day
and at an unknown hour and will punish him severely
and assign him a place with the hypocrites,
where there will be wailing and grind
Be prepared!
1) Stay awake! This is the first thing that Jesus is warning you about: stay awake, be prepared because Jesus is really coming! The fast-paced life we live makes us forget that we must live a “F.U.L.” life, and by that I mean First, Unique, Last. What does this imply? That you have to live each day as if it were the first day, the most unique day, and the last day ever! Do not get too used to your routine life, because you do not know when it will end. In the meantime, you should enjoy it (and even more so if you have been close to experiencing death). This reminds me of a friend that almost died and then, through a miracle of God, she came back to life. Now it’s impressive how she transmits life to those around her, motivating others, sharing love and happiness with them. We all have problems, of course, but we can commit ourselves to living our days in better ways; we can live them as if they were the first, the most unique, and the last days of our lives.
2) Busy? You might say that you are too busy working but… come on! It is good to work, but you must also work on your spirituality, your inner peace and silence. Work on your character; it is not worth being a famous priest or a prestigious doctor if you are really more of an ogre than Shrek (the one in the movie). What good is there in enjoying the “best things” in life if you do not even spend time with your children? Work on your spiritual life so you’ll be ready when you have to leave this world. If you need to forgive or be forgiven, then do so. Work on that!
3) Hypocrites. When your life is all about parties and it becomes disordered, it is usually because you do not know how to face things. This is what I call the “drunkard” system, referring to those people who need alcohol to express themselves. When a person is drunk, they’ll usually say too much even though they might not think straight. Then, when they are sober, they regret what they have said. Don’t be like this, just ask for help and confront your issues. Ask for help, face your problems, and then come to terms with your life. You and your life should be walking as “one” towards happiness. Do not be a hypocrite going through life with a mask on, believing, and making others believe that you are happy. Take off your mask! We, as the Church, are here to help you.
Never forget that something good is on the way!
