Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 6, 12-19
Jesus departed to the mountain to pray,
and he spent the night in prayer to God.
When day came, he called his disciples to himself,
and from them he chose Twelve, whom he also named Apostles:
Simon, whom he named Peter, and his brother Andrew,
James, John, Philip, Bartholomew,
Matthew, Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus,
Simon who was called a Zealot,
and Judas the son of James,
and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.
And he came down with them and stood on a stretch of level ground.
A great crowd of his disciples and a large number of the people
from all Judea and Jerusalem
and the coastal region of Tyre and Sidon
came to hear him and to be healed of their diseases;
and even those who were tormented by unclean spirits were cured.
Everyone in the crowd sought to touch him
because power came forth from him and healed them all.
From prayer to action
1. He departed to the mountain. In the course of daily life, Jesus invites you to distance yourself from your routine in order to have that special moment to talk with God. You can’t always be busy and wrapped up in your thoughts, because that doesn’t do you good, and it doesn’t help you move forward. The Son of God himself sought out a moment; He made that space for himself, to be with his Father. Do not stop looking for that intimate moment; that moment in which you can sit, alone, and talk to him about what’s going on in your life.
2. By day. Jesus takes his time to choose and decide, because when you choose things which are going to determine everything in your life, they have to be decided on by praying and reflecting about them. You cannot decide and choose with haste. You must learn how to choose who will accompany you, who will walk with you along your path and who will become your companion for life. The person who will walk along with you in your life, must be the outcome of your prayers, and not someone who has just clung to you for some reason or other.
3. Level ground. Everyone was waiting for Jesus, but He took his time. First, He needed to take care of his personal space, and then distinguish his people from all those around him. Jesus knew how to discern the limits of where his area of action was, and where his area of his personal formation began. I think you have to be clear about this: your life is not only about doing or fulfilling obligations, but also about your personal time and space. You need that time and space to create a strong relationship with those people who share your life, and who care about you. Jesus has chosen you to walk with him and you must choose those who want to walk with you towards the Lord.
Remember that something good is on the way!
God bless you, be with you and protect you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
