Luke 7, 31-35

by Fr. Luis A. Zazano

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 7, 31-35

Jesus said to the crowds:
“To what shall I compare the people of this generation?
What are they like?
They are like children who sit in the marketplace and call to one another,

‘We played the flute for you, but you did not dance.
We sang a dirge, but you did not weep.’

For John the Baptist came neither eating food nor drinking wine,
and you said, ‘He is possessed by a demon.’
The Son of Man came eating and drinking and you said,
‘Look, he is a glutton and a drunkard,
a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’
But wisdom is vindicated by all her children.”

Jesus admonishes us

1. Compare. Jesus points out that we are never satisfied or pleased. We are always looking for something better or something different. There are moments when you become so demanding that nothing satisfies you, you demand and demand. You think that life is a menu where you decide what you add or take out. Today, it would be good if you challenge yourself to see if you value what you already have; if you love those that are in your life; or if you’re always looking for what you would like and what you are lacking. Do you see the glass half full or half empty?

2) Those who are sent.  God shows us that He is constantly sending people into our lives to help us change and to encourage us to strive on. During your lifetime, people come and go. Some stay, but others disappear. But, there are a few people who leave their mark on your life. Today think about this: who has marked your life positively?

3) Criticism. There will always be people who talk about what you do or don’t do; how you do this or that. But remember, even Jesus was criticized ! Do not be afraid! Continue to move forward and to fulfil God’s will in your life.

Remember, something good is on the way!

God bless you, be with you and protect you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
