Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 9, 43b-45

While they were all amazed at his every deed,
Jesus said to his disciples,
“Pay attention to what I am telling you.
The Son of Man is to be handed over to men.”
But they did not understand this saying;
its meaning was hidden from them
so that they should not understand it,
and they were afraid to ask him about this saying.

Don’t lose your head

1. They admired him. Many people will admire you and praise you, but don’t believe everything that’s said because that can get you into serious difficulties. You must be careful because those who love you do not assess how far they can encourage you and how far they can “poison” you. Do not misunderstand me; I mean that pride quickly clings to you, and it is difficult to get rid of it. When you are praised do not say anything, do not let it seize you, because if you do, you will end up doing things for people’s approval.

2. Remember. Jesus constantly remembers the path He is walking along, the mission his Father has given him. Remembering who you are and what your weaknesses are; remembering your life story and your path is fundamental in order not to be “poisoned” by vainglory. You must keep your feet on the ground and not let yourself be carried away by praise so as to become too full of your own importance. Look, there is nothing more pedantic than an arrogant person who needs all the spotlights pointed to him or her.

3. Strategies. To avoid falling into vainglory, take care of humility. Try to go unnoticed as much as you can and do not tell everyone what you do; let them discover it. I’d like share with you the “Litany of Humility”, that I pray daily. It may will help you.
