Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 10, 38-42

Jesus entered a village
where a woman whose name was Martha welcomed him.
She had a sister named Mary
who sat beside the Lord at his feet listening to him speak.
Martha, burdened with much serving, came to him and said,
“Lord, do you not care
that my sister has left me by myself to do the serving?
Tell her to help me.”
The Lord said to her in reply,
“Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things.
There is need of only one thing.
Mary has chosen the better part
and it will not be taken from her.”

She has chosen the better part

1.  She welcomed him. I think hospitality is something that we have to work on in our lives. Nowadays we are very indifferent. We must learn to share and make the person we are with feel good and important. We should stop focusing on ourselves and learn from Martha to open up to others; to welcome others so that after having shared time with us, they leave feeling happy.

2.  Very busy. The figure of Martha is very interesting. She welcomes Jesus, but she is not mindful of His words. This can happen to us: we declare we are Christians, but we do not talk to Christ. We belong to a Church in an institutional way, but we do not have a personal relationship with Jesus. Perhaps you might be sure that you have Jesus in your life, but you are probably not engaging in an intimate dialogue with Jesus, which is the essence of our faith.

3.  Mary. In Mary we see that person who allows herself to be amazed. She knows that she is there to learn and understand; she is receptive. We may need to work on this. Instead of wanting to solve everything ourselves, or wanting to control everything, even God himself, we must learn to listen to Him; to grasp and understand what He says, and after listening to Him, we must go out to share what we have learned. Today, God teaches you that it is not doing a lot that makes you eternal, but rather listening to Him and, after this intimacy, manifesting what you have embraced.

God bless you, be with you and protect you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Remember that something good is on the way!
