Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according Saint Luke 12, 49-53
Jesus said to his disciples:
“I have come to set the earth on fire,
and how I wish it were already blazing!
There is a baptism with which I must be baptized,
and how great is my anguish until it is accomplished!
Do you think that I have come to establish peace on the earth?
No, I tell you, but rather division.
From now on a household of five will be divided,
three against two and two against three;
a father will be divided against his son
and a son against his father,
a mother against her daughter
and a daughter against her mother,
a mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law
and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.”
The fire of love
1. Desire. You know that fire purifies and illuminates. Perhaps, you should make the decision of purifying your life today, making it burn, so that it may highlight those things that are in your life but do not help you. Look how interesting this is: if you allow God to purify you then He can use all those things that do not contribute positively to your life in order to illuminate you, instead. Do not stop, for a single moment , battling against whatever does not help you in your Christian life, because over time it will be purified and then it will illuminate your life and the lives of others. That is when the light that is in you is also the product of letting go of those things that pull you down and hinder your life. All of this is achieved with time and faith. Trust and let go!
2. Anguish. We all go through moments in which we experience anguish, moments when we feel empty and sad. It is something that happens to you and me when we see time passing and we cannot solve difficulties that we are experiencing. It is then that we have to fight the hardest because it requires facing ourselves, our problems, and knowing how to trust in God. If there is something that distresses you today, ask Jesus to help you and show you what you have to do. Remember “baptism” also means being reborn, and when you face anguish it means that you are dying to something to be born again to something new in your life. The issue is to identify what it is you are dying to.
3. Division. There will always be division because the radical nature of Christian life implies that many will not like your way of being or thinking. This is where your struggle comes in: to show clearly what you want for your life, and not only what others want you to be. You cannot live life entirely at the service of others, but it is possible to give yourself to others, without ceasing to be yourself. Maintain your unity with God and with yourself, even if others want to divide you.
Never forget that something good is on the way!
God bless you, be with you and protect you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
