Luke 11, 29-32

by Fr. Luis A. Zazano

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 11, 29-32

While still more people gathered in the crowd, Jesus said to them,
“This generation is an evil generation;
it seeks a sign, but no sign will be given it,
except the sign of Jonah.
Just as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites,
so will the Son of Man be to this generation.
At the judgment
the queen of the south will rise with the men of this generation
and she will condemn them,
because she came from the ends of the earth
to hear the wisdom of Solomon,
and there is something greater than Solomon here.
At the judgment the men of Nineveh will arise with this generation
and condemn it,
because at the preaching of Jonah they repented,
and there is something greater than Jonah here.”

Conversion is a daily task

1. Evil generation. We can be very complicated, we are always getting into difficult situations or making comments about others, we are sometimes cunning and deceitful,  wanting to fool even God. We try to take advantage of others, our life partners, our friends… We even try to use God, expecting Him to do what we want. Evil and weakness are not the same. Weak people do not calculate or premeditate actions;  they even try to change. But, evil people meditate on what they plan to do.

2. Signs. There are always signs in our lives. There are signs that warn us about situations and guide our decision-making. Before you decide something, look at the signs that appear your way. Take your time to consider them carefully; analyze the signs that you see before you decide. Do not make decisions without considering things carefully, because you can make mistakes. Do not worry about what other people might think. Do not let yourself be pressured by anyone or by situations. When you make decisions, leave your obsessions out.

3. Conversion. Conversion refers to change, trying to change every day. Sin brings us down and brings out the ugliest in us. Yes, we are all sinners, you and me! Let’s not pretend we have never sinned because we have. When we take responsibility for our faults we are on the road to conversion. First, we have to ask for forgiveness. Do you want to start? If you do, look in the mirror, see yourself as you really are. Look into your own eyes and think about everything you have gone through and ask yourself for forgiveness.

Remember that something good is on the way!

God bless you, be with you and protect you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
