Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Mark 9, 2-10
Jesus took Peter, James, and John
and led them up a high mountain apart by themselves.
And he was transfigured before them,
and his clothes became dazzling white,
such as no fuller on earth could bleach them.
Then Elijah appeared to them along with Moses,
and they were conversing with Jesus.
Then Peter said to Jesus in reply,
“Rabbi, it is good that we are here!
Let us make three tents:
one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
He hardly knew what to say, they were so terrified.
Then a cloud came, casting a shadow over them;
from the cloud came a voice,
“This is my beloved Son. Listen to him.”
Suddenly, looking around, they no longer saw anyone
but Jesus alone with them.
As they were coming down from the mountain,
he charged them not to relate what they had seen to anyone,
except when the Son of Man had risen from the dead.
So they kept the matter to themselves,
questioning what rising from the dead meant.
Transfigure yourself
1) Jesus led them to a high mount. When you desire to commit to Christian life you’ll go through a spiritual process, like climbing a mountain. What the apostles felt was like the grace that you experience after a retreat, a mass or adoration – moments when you feel great joy in your spirit that even drives some people to do more and more. It’s a beautiful experience, I agree, you feel good and comfortable, but be careful, I must tell you that it is a stage. I suggest that during this stage you write down all your experiences and feelings, because they are strong and beautiful. Writing them down is a good way to remember them and keep them in mind because, when the moments of drought come along and you are not up on the mount, you’ll be able to remember that Jesus really took you to the top of the mountain.
2) It is good that we are here. This is what Peter says. Yes, the experience with God is beautiful. But it must set in motion a way of being and of living. You cannot lead a Christian life only through experiences and feelings. Christian life is a process of maturation and formation. When I began to follow Jesus, all my time, energy and predisposition were devoted to God’s things, as if I had direct and complete Wi-Fi connection with Him every day. But over time one discovers that Christian life is a process of maturity and that it doesn’t only involve feelings.
3) What we have experienced. Jesus reminds us that Lent is a time that leads to Easter and prepares us for it. The same thing happens in life, there are difficult, tough times, but they prepare us for something great and beautiful. Look, we all go through hard times, but God keeps reminding us that his promise is still intact. He is always by our side.
Come on! Remember that something good is on the way! Be strong and determined because Jesus has given us a glimpse of Heaven and continues to do so every day.
God bless you and be with you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
