Matthew 5, 43- 48

Be perfect

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew 5, 43-48

Jesus said to his disciples:
“You have heard that it was said,
You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.
But I say to you, love your enemies,
and pray for those who persecute you,
that you may be children of your heavenly Father,
for he makes his sun rise on the bad and the good,
and causes rain to fall on the just and the unjust.
For if you love those who love you, what recompense will you have?
Do not the tax collectors do the same?
And if you greet your brothers and sisters only,
what is unusual about that?
Do not the pagans do the same?
So be perfect, just as your heavenly Father is perfect.”

Be perfect

1. To love. Loving implies giving life and devotion. This demands renunciation and also surrender. If you truly love someone, this demands sacrifice. Because true love implies “dying to yourself” so that a relationship may live. Being willing to love means being willing to sacrifice, giving things up in order to truly gain.

2. Enemies. There are people who will indeed make your life difficult. The problem arises when you give them a privileged place in your life and focus on that person who hurt you, forgetting everything else around you. Your life is not reduced to a person or a group of people who laugh at you or hurt you. Learn from those wounds and draw strength from them. And the next step is to love them. What does this mean? It refers to supernatural love, grace given by God, which implies praying, forgiving, and forgetting. Difficult? Very difficult, that’s why I want to remind you that it is a process.

3. Perfection. It is understood here as fulfilment. It means bringing out the best version of yourself. Don’t dwell on the blows and mistakes, but rather look for what helps you to be that best version of yourself and strive to grow day by day.

Remember that something good is on the way!

God bless you and protect you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
