Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John 7, 1-2, 10, 25-30
Jesus moved about within Galilee;
he did not wish to travel in Judea,
because the Jews were trying to kill him.
But the Jewish feast of Tabernacles was near.
But when his brothers had gone up to the feast,
he himself also went up, not openly but as it were in secret.
Some of the inhabitants of Jerusalem said,
“Is he not the one they are trying to kill?
And look, he is speaking openly and they say nothing to him.
Could the authorities have realized that he is the Christ?
But we know where he is from.
When the Christ comes, no one will know where he is from.”
So Jesus cried out in the temple area as he was teaching and said,
“You know me and also know where I am from.
Yet I did not come on my own,
but the one who sent me, whom you do not know, is true.
I know him, because I am from him, and he sent me.”
So they tried to arrest him,
but no one laid a hand upon him,
because his hour had not yet come.
Prudence engenders life
- He did not want to travel through Judea. It’s interesting to see this attitude in Jesus, his prudence. This is crucial for you and me since many times we clash with others. Or we get into situations in which inevitably lead to an adverse outcome, allowing ourselves to be carried away by the passion that we put into things or by being hardheaded. But Jesus shows you that you shouldn’t be around people who don’t want to see you well and who try to destroy you with their words. Be aware and be prudent – aware that there are people who want to pull you down, and prudent so as not to go to those places where there are people who do not like you.
- Where he comes from. Even those close to Jesus criticize him, thinking that they know him. This may also happen to you and me; people think they know you and pass judgment without fear of God. Just like you and I judge people believing that we know them and destroy them. I think it might be fair to say that that our difficulties lie far more in those who are closest to us than in those who are not. It’s our relatives or co-workers who so often have us trapped with their talk or criticism. But we forget that every person is a mystery.
- His hour had not yet come. Everything has its time and its moment. That’s why you must understand that there are situations that you have to accept and face, but also others that you must learn how to handle. In life, whoever gets angry, loses out. That’s why you must learn how to wait and understand that there is a time for everything. Don’t let anxiety and impatience get the best of you. Because impatience leads you to recklessness and recklessness to intolerance and this creates confusion in you.
