Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John 16, 23b- 28

Jesus said to his disciples:
“Amen, amen, I say to you,
whatever you ask the Father in my name he will give you.
Until now you have not asked anything in my name;
ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete.

“I have told you this in figures of speech.
The hour is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figures
but I will tell you clearly about the Father.
On that day you will ask in my name,
and I do not tell you that I will ask the Father for you.
For the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me
and have come to believe that I came from God.
I came from the Father and have come into the world.
Now I am leaving the world and going back to the Father.”

Going back to the Father

  1. Ask and you will receive. Asking of God does not mean that He becomes an Aladdin God, nor does it mean that you are the master and God a virtual assistant like Alexa that does things you ask for. What Jesus means is that God helps you to change the way you look at things, you learn to see things differently so you’re able to find something good and useful for you in everything you experience. Many times, situations don’t change, but you change the way you see and handle them, and this helps you to change the way you perceive the whole picture.
  2. Loves you. How interesting it is to see Jesus as a mediator. That’s how we can understand that a mediator fulfills a role and then disappears. It’s something we all have to learn, because when we take on a role, we find it difficult to let go and we want everything to go through us. If we put ourselves in that situation we will always be tempted and complaining.
  3. Joy. It’s the happiness of freedom. Being free makes you happy, just as understanding what freedom implies. There are things that you have to give up to be happy, mainly those things that take your eyes away from heaven, from eternity, things that destroy your freedom and your soul, things that prevent you from being yourself. Being joyful implies knowing how to say: “I’m going to give this up”, “I surrender this” because it doesn’t do me good. Ask God for true joy.

Always remember something good is on the way!

God bless you and be with you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
