Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Mark 14, 12-16, 22-26

On the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread,
when they sacrificed the Passover lamb,
Jesus’ disciples said to him,
“Where do you want us to go
and prepare for you to eat the Passover?”
He sent two of his disciples and said to them,
“Go into the city and a man will meet you,
carrying a jar of water.
Follow him.
Wherever he enters, say to the master of the house,
‘The Teacher says, “Where is my guest room
where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?”‘
Then he will show you a large upper room furnished and ready.
Make the preparations for us there.”
The disciples then went off, entered the city,
and found it just as he had told them;
and they prepared the Passover.

While they were eating,
he took bread, said the blessing,
broke it, gave it to them, and said,
“Take it; this is my body.”
Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them,
and they all drank from it.
He said to them,
“This is my blood of the covenant,
which will be shed for many.
Amen, I say to you,
I shall not drink again the fruit of the vine
until the day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.”
Then, after singing a hymn,
they went out to the Mount of Olives.

The Bread of Life

1. Corpus Christi. This feast, the Body of the Lord, more properly called Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ arises from the doubt that many people had of the real presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. Given the Eucharistic miracles and the words of Jesus himself on Holy Thursday, during the Middle Ages the Church proposed that all Christians should make a public act of faith, of love and adoration of Jesus in the Eucharist. Hence the tradition of celebrating in the main squares of towns and cities. Today try to show your love to Jesus in the Eucharist.

2.  Bread. If you look at it, the host says a lot to us. In what sense? In the sense that it is something very simple, it is the blending of wheat flour with water. It is made without yeast, because the yeast would create a determined time limit, but without it, it keeps for a longer time. It is the Holy Spirit who makes that piece of bread become the body of Christ. That is why we kneel when the priest extends his hands and invokes the Holy Spirit. That’s when there is a tremendous change! It is Jesus who gives himself out of pure love. Jesus comes in the simplest way and is our treasure. Today, God can bring about a tremendous change in your life through the Holy Spirit. It’s the Spirit that brings you the holy grace that sanctifies you. Today, through simplicity and unity with the Holy Spirit, you can reach that full transformation.

3. Wine. The symbol of purity and fortitude over the years. That’s why for mass we use wine that is natural, without any chemical product. This wine, which is made from grapes that have been trodden, takes days to process. This is similar to the life of a Christian: pressed or marked over the years, to bring out the best of him or her and to achieve an identity that deepens as time goes by. Your experience is unique and over time, you manage to show the world that you can give the best of yourself. You can become pure with the presence of God, filling yourself with Him. That’s why, during the consecration, the priest pours two drops of water into the wine in the chalice as a symbol that humanity (the water) sinks in the divinity of God (the wine). Once you put the water into the wine, it’s impossible to take it out again. Because of Jesus, humanity can never again be separated permanently from God. In each mass we ask for this: to be filled with God and to be able to achieve the pure identity of being other “christs” on earth to others every day.

Remember something good is on the way.

God bless you and be with you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
