Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Mark 6, 1-6
Jesus departed from there and came to his native place, accompanied by his disciples. When the sabbath came he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were astonished. They said, “Where did this man get all this? What kind of wisdom has been given him? What mighty deeds are wrought by his hands! Is he not the carpenter, the son of Mary, and the brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us?”And they took offense at him.Jesus said to them,“A prophet is not without honor except in his native placeand among his own kin and in his own house.”So he was not able to perform any mighty deed there, apart from curing a few sick people by laying his hands on them.He was amazed at their lack of faith.
Wisdom comes from God
1. To his native place. In the face of the successes or failures that life presents you with, always take the time to go back. Because success can make you forget your roots and believe that you are someone you aren’t. The same happens when you fail, you start to believe that your life has no meaning and you end up believing that everything is a failure. After preaching to the crowd, Jesus returns to his hometown, to his people and to his essence. If you have failed or have gone through difficult times, go back to your origin, and even get together with people who have known you since you were a boy or a girl. If you are doing well in life, I invite you to do the same. The story of St John Bosco, comes to my mind… when he suffered a great crisis both in his health and in his faith, Don Cafasso, who was his spiritual director, sent him home to share time with his mother, Margarita. The soup his mother made for him made him understand that human warmth and familiarity can even raise the dead! Time shared with his mother gave him the strength to continue. Anyway, what I am getting at is that going back to our roots, even if only spiritually, heals, revives and strengthens you.
2. With his disciples. Look, when a person is happy with who he is and with what he does, that person is sound and healthy and has a lot of potential. But if you interact with people who make you suffer all the time or you work in a place where they always give you a hard time, you will end up making yourself sick and falling apart. Remember that in your life there are two pillars: love and work and that if have Jesus in your life, those pillars will be strong. If one fails we can lean on the other; but remember love and work are the two key elements of your life to live healthily. That’s why you should try to take good care of these two aspects in your life.
3. Lack of faith. It is important to nurture your faith and your prayer time. Take care of and nourish your faith, abandon yourself in God’s hands; also conform your heart to him and build your relationship with him. Because when people turn their back on you or when you just don’t know how to go on, faith is what can lift you up and encourage you. It’s important to have your space and your prayer time; that’s what will allow you to grow in your faith.
Never forget that something good is on the way!
God bless you and protect you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
