Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John 1, 45-51
Philip found Nathanael and told him,
“We have found the one about whom Moses wrote in the law,
and also the prophets, Jesus son of Joseph, from Nazareth.”
But Nathanael said to him,
“Can anything good come from Nazareth?”
Philip said to him, “Come and see.”
Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him and said of him,
“Here is a true child of Israel.
There is no duplicity in him.”
Nathanael said to him, “How do you know me?”
Jesus answered and said to him,
“Before Philip called you, I saw you under the fig tree.”
Nathanael answered him,
“Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the King of Israel.”
Jesus answered and said to him,
“Do you believe
because I told you that I saw you under the fig tree?
You will see greater things than this.”
And he said to him, “Amen, amen, I say to you,
you will see heaven opened and the angels of God
ascending and descending on the Son of Man.”
God can find you anywhere
- hilip. He is the figure of the missionary, I even dare say the digital missionary, like you and me. Because he goes out to announce Jesus to those close to him, to his friend. It’s important to take Jesus to others through trust, through friendship, closeness and simplicity. You are Philip when you send the audio commentary of the Gospel to that friend who may not be going through a good time. You may comfort him with this detail, “do you want me to send you some audio reflections that I’ve found helpful?” You are Philip when you invite your friend for a meal and you prepare something delicious for him or her, so that they feel comfortable. During the meal, you can bring up the topic of life and how they’re doing, and you can mention the verse from the Gospel that might help. You’re Philip when you go out for a coffee and, listen attentively and chat about the struggles each one is going through. In short, to be a missionary is to be close to others in daily life, with trust and simplicity. It’s leaving aside bureaucracy, fanaticism and rigidity. Show Jesus through friendship and trust.
- Can anything good come? You can find God anywhere. Don’t let prejudice get the better of you. There are times when prejudice prevents us from finding Jesus. But you can be surprised in the place and by the person you least expect, because God surprises where and with whom you least imagine. Today, break your prejudice and let yourself be found by God.
- You will see. I assure you that whoever lives in Christ, sees life in a different way and comes to view things in life that he didn’t notice before. You have a way of seeing life from a different perspective. You are a Christian. Because you and I must taste life like good wine. We must enjoy it, live it and fill ourselves with what only God can give us, and that is “inner peace”. Live with an enthusiastic look, strive forward with the faith that encourages you, and love with the heart that God himself has given you.
Remember that something good is on the way!
God bless you and be with you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
