Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John 6, 60-69
Many of Jesus’ disciples who were listening said,
“This saying is hard; who can accept it?”
Since Jesus knew that his disciples were murmuring about this,
he said to them, “Does this shock you?
What if you were to see the Son of Man ascending
to where he was before?
It is the spirit that gives life,
while the flesh is of no avail.
The words I have spoken to you are Spirit and life.
But there are some of you who do not believe.”
Jesus knew from the beginning the ones who would not believe
and the one who would betray him.
And he said,
“For this reason I have told you that no one can come to me
unless it is granted him by my Father.”
As a result of this,
many of his disciples returned to their former way of life
and no longer accompanied him.
Jesus then said to the Twelve, “Do you also want to leave?”
Simon Peter answered him, “Master, to whom shall we go?
You have the words of eternal life.
We have come to believe
and are convinced that you are the Holy One of God.”
Believe in God
1. “This saying is hard”. Jesus proposes something radical. He invites you to conversion with conviction. You must be convinced of what you do and also of what you believe, not only in religion but in every aspect of life. Jesus proposes total surrender and living life coherently not halfway.
2. The Spirit. It’s what gives life. That’s why it’s important to grow in our spirituality because it’s what nourishes you as a person and raises you towards Christ. The Church has many charismas, and many movements that enrich the laity, the priests and consecrated men and women. Christians are not NGOs. If we were, we would only do social work, but the key here is that we aim to take Jesus to others and we try to see Jesus in everything we do, in the people we work with, in those we share our life with.
3. The following. Following Jesus is the result of your conviction and surrender to him. It’s the experience of that encounter with Jesus that leads you to be radical in your decision of making a total and absolute surrender to him. Today there might also be a change in you, because heaven is in your hands.
Remember that something good is on the way!
God bless you and be with you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
