Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 10, 13-16
Jesus said to them,
“Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida!
For if the mighty deeds done in your midst
had been done in Tyre and Sidon,
they would long ago have repented,
sitting in sackcloth and ashes.
But it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon
at the judgment than for you.
And as for you, Capernaum, ‘Will you be exalted to heaven?
You will go down to the netherworld.’
Whoever listens to you listens to me.
Whoever rejects you rejects me.
And whoever rejects me rejects the one who sent me.”
God speaks in you
- Chorazin. This represents Christians who can’t see beyond their nose what God is doing in their lives. You may be obsessed with something that prevents you from seeing everything else that God puts in front of you. You keep looking at others and what they have, but you aren’t capable of seeing your own riches, and that leads you to keep on going round in circles. How many times has it even led you to be envious of someone when deep down you have more than the person you envy has? Today look at yourself and value what you are and what you have, in order to change and move forward in life.
- Capernaum. It represents Christians who think they are the purest and believe that they’ve already earned heaven. Their religious arrogance is so great that they believe that, because they know a lot about religion, they have a life membership card. No! Our Christian life doesn’t go that way. Christians aren’t called to look down on the life of others, but rather to assist fallen and beaten brothers and sisters. We can’t go about saying to a brother who wants to talk to us, “no, we can’t get together because you’re a sinner” or “you’d better not come round because you’re a sinner”. Christians are those who welcome and celebrate the new life that others are able to achieve in Christ.
- Tyre and Sidon. These are Christians who struggle, who accept their mistakes and want to change, but they know they are fragile and weak. Don’t give up the struggle and fight for holiness, don’t give up; you must go on because God will never abandon you. Remember that every sinner has a future, and every saint has a past. Don’t forget that, if you’ve fallen into sin, even if it was the greatest sin, cleanse yourself well from that fall, shake yourself from the dust, rise up and start walking again. For every repentant heart is forgiven.
Remember that something good is on the way!
God bless you, be with you and protect you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
