Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 10, 25-37
There was a scholar of the law who stood up to test Jesus and said,
“Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”
Jesus said to him, “What is written in the law?
How do you read it?”
He said in reply,
“You shall love the Lord, your God,
with all your heart,
with all your being,
with all your strength,
and with all your mind,
and your neighbor as yourself.”
He replied to him, “You have answered correctly;
do this and you will live.”
But because he wished to justify himself, he said to Jesus,
“And who is my neighbor?”
Jesus replied,
“A man fell victim to robbers
as he went down from Jerusalem to Jericho.
They stripped and beat him and went off leaving him half-dead.
A priest happened to be going down that road,
but when he saw him, he passed by on the opposite side.
Likewise a Levite came to the place,
and when he saw him, he passed by on the opposite side.
But a Samaritan traveler who came upon him
was moved with compassion at the sight.
He approached the victim,
poured oil and wine over his wounds and bandaged them.
Then he lifted him up on his own animal,
took him to an inn, and cared for him.
The next day he took out two silver coins
and gave them to the innkeeper with the instruction,
‘Take care of him.
If you spend more than what I have given you,
I shall repay you on my way back.’
Which of these three, in your opinion,
was neighbor to the robbers’ victim?”
He answered, “The one who treated him with mercy.”
Jesus said to him, “Go and do likewise.”
Love and move on
1. Doing. Sometimes we believe that life is made up of doing a lot of things, but you come to realize that you must do only one thing: “love”. And loving God means enjoying everything you do and have. Stop filling yourself with all sorts of things to achieve something that you don’t know whether it will ever come about or not. Learn to love what’s in your hands and possibilities, such as God Himself and the people around you.
2. Neighbor. Your neighbor is the person who is close to you, a person close to you at work, at home or in the neighborhood. Helping your neighbor sometimes means facing your own prejudices and striving to be a good person. Don’t let prejudice prevent you from helping someone to grow and rise. Remember that you can help someone to live life fully and moreover, to have eternal life. There are many hurt and wounded people, I know, but there are also people who are ignored, even ignored by those of us who are believers. Slow down and look at those who are close to you and are going through a hard time.
3. He moved on. The Samaritan entrusted the wounded man to the innkeeper and then went on his way, because to help does not mean to possess. Helping does not mean that you become a savior and that the person you help becomes dependent on you or that you’re now responsible for that person. Helping does not mean that this other person is forever in your debt. It means to strengthen someone’s life and to pursue your path, letting that person continue to make their own way and follow their own path.
Today let’s remember Our Lady of the Holy Rosary and pray the rosary for the glory of our Lord. This powerful prayer also helps us develop a stronger relationship with God through meditating on the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus.
“Our Lady of the Rosary, who helps us see the saving work of God in our own lives—pray for us!”
Something good is on the way!
God bless you and protect you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
