Luke 18, 1-8

by Fr. Luis A. Zazano

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 18, 1-8

Jesus told his disciples a parable
about the necessity for them to pray always without becoming weary.
He said, “There was a judge in a certain town
who neither feared God nor respected any human being.
And a widow in that town used to come to him and say,
‘Render a just decision for me against my adversary.’
For a long time the judge was unwilling, but eventually he thought,
‘While it is true that I neither fear God nor respect any human being,
because this widow keeps bothering me
I shall deliver a just decision for her
lest she finally come and strike me.’”
The Lord said, “Pay attention to what the dishonest judge says.
Will not God then secure the rights of his chosen ones
who call out to him day and night?
Will he be slow to answer them?
I tell you, he will see to it that justice is done for them speedily.
But when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?”

The Gospel of the Lord

1.  Prayer. Prayer is a conversation with God, that comes from your heart. It’s the grace of being able to express to God what you’re experiencing. You might not be aware that prayer is very powerful and how it can work for you! It’s a very important aspect of our life that we usually neglect or avoid. Remember, prayers can lead to the breaking of boundaries in our life. It can give us security and encouragement and also clarity. Don’t get discouraged.  Prayer is important to be able to achieve what you believe is impossible to accomplish!

2. The widow. Through this parable we see the values of humility and perseverance, two key elements that we must cultivate in our lives. We are not constant in prayer nor in the pursuit of what must be done. Please remember humility and prayer are the pillars of holiness.  And of course, faith, which is God’s gift that makes you strong. Whoever has faith, manages to have peace and whoever has peace knows how to forgive, and whoever knows how to forgive manages to walk in this life with a tender look and firm steps.

3. The judge. Prayer can help soften tough hearts. Don’t be afraid of asking, praying, and persevering. Fight for what your heart tells you with clarity and don’t let anyone stifle the plans God has for you. Don’t be afraid, prayer changes everything in life.
