Luke 20, 27- 40

by Fr. Luis A. Zazano

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 20, 27- 40

Some Sadducees, those who deny that there is a resurrection,
came forward and put this question to Jesus, saying,
“Teacher, Moses wrote for us,
If someone’s brother dies leaving a wife but no child,
his brother must take the wife
and raise up descendants for his brother.

Now there were seven brothers;
the first married a woman but died childless.
Then the second and the third married her,
and likewise all the seven died childless.
Finally the woman also died.
Now at the resurrection whose wife will that woman be?
For all seven had been married to her.”
Jesus said to them,
“The children of this age marry and remarry;
but those who are deemed worthy to attain to the coming age
and to the resurrection of the dead
neither marry nor are given in marriage.
They can no longer die,
for they are like angels;
and they are the children of God
because they are the ones who will rise.
That the dead will rise
even Moses made known in the passage about the bush,
when he called  ‘Lord’
the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob;
and he is not God of the dead, but of the living,
for to him all are alive.”
Some of the scribes said in reply,
“Teacher, you have answered well.”
And they no longer dared to ask him anything

Eternity

1. Resurrection. Our Christian faith is centered on this, on the certainty that we’re going to be resurrected. We believe that death is the passage to eternal life. The road to eternity starts here. That’s why our hope is knowing that everything doesn’t end here and that, beyond what happens to you in this world, there is something good that will come into your life, as long as you desire it and fight for it.

2. Woman. Jesus reminds us that, for us Christians, a woman is not an object. She has dignity and she feelings. But I would like to go further: man and woman cannot be objectified, by that I mean that they can’t treat each other as a thing. The boundary of any relationship is dignity. You have dignity and you’re important. Please, do not use each other in married life. You are two happy people who come together to be happier. And your happiness shouldn’t come at the expense of the other person, but rather happiness comes together with the other person. Be clear and honest with the person who walks along with you in life. You both deserve to be happy and to have peace and for that, you must be truthful.

3.  God of the living. This implies that you must deepen your spiritual life and be aware that your relationship with God is important, that it shouldn’t be reduced to just following rules or simply attending ceremonies and rituals. Remember to feed your spirit. How do you do that? How do you relate with God? Come on, remember God is with you!

Never forget that something good is on the way!

God bless you and be with you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
