Luke 18, 35-43

by Fr. Luis A. Zazano
“Jesus, Son of David, have pity on me!”

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 18, 35-43

As Jesus approached Jericho
a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging,
and hearing a crowd going by, he inquired what was happening.
They told him,
“Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.”
He shouted, “Jesus, Son of David, have pity on me!”
The people walking in front rebuked him,
telling him to be silent,
but he kept calling out all the more,
“Son of David, have pity on me!”
Then Jesus stopped and ordered that he be brought to him;
and when he came near, Jesus asked him,
“What do you want me to do for you?”
He replied, “Lord, please let me see.”
Jesus told him, “Have sight; your faith has saved you.”
He immediately received his sight
and followed him, giving glory to God.
When they saw this, all the people gave praise to God.

What do you want me to do for you?

1. A blind person. He was sitting by the roadside. He no longer had any strength, but most importantly, he had no hope. He is the reflection of a person who has given up on life, who does not want to go on fighting, and who walks through life indifferently, neither hoping for anything nor actively doing something in life. Think of all you have gone through this year. Perhaps, because of everything you’ve been experiencing, you don’t want to keep on walking because are tired and you too have become “blind.”  Ask yourself today whether you are a doer or a viewer in your life.

2.  Be silent.  They wanted to keep him quiet; the crowds wanted him to shut up. Are you silent too? Have you stopped crying out to God? Perhaps the number of things you have to do today prevent you from coming together with God. The lack of time we all say we have leaves no time to talk to God. You must make time to listen to God, to tell him what you are going through.

3.  “Lord, please let me see.” Today, let’s ask Jesus that we may be able to see. Your life is a constant search for truth, and you must learn to see what is happening around you and within you.  Lord, that we may see, that we may be and that we may understand. Today let’s ask God that we might be able to see and have the strength to move forward. Today, God wants to make you see that He is with you.

Always remember that something good is on the way!

God bless you and protect you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
