Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 19, 41-44
As Jesus drew near Jerusalem,
he saw the city and wept over it, saying,
“If this day you only knew what makes for peace–
but now it is hidden from your eyes.
For the days are coming upon you
when your enemies will raise a palisade against you;
they will encircle you and hem you in on all sides.
They will smash you to the ground and your children within you,
and they will not leave one stone upon another within you
because you did not recognize the time of your visitation.”
Jesus weeps
1. When he drew near. Jesus was near Jerusalem and wept over it. This makes me think about the many Christians who weep over their people, their city, their nation, their homeland. We seek heaven, but we desire to do good on earth. This is where we make our homeland. What are you doing for your country? There are times when we turn a blind eye to anything that concerns our nation, but we must work in order for it to move forward.
2. Weep. How important it is to love your homeland and to love those who fought for your freedom and dignity. Remember that it’s our responsibility to become citizens, rather than being simply inhabitants. Inhabitants only take up space in the country, citizens are committed to working for the common good, and they strive for their homeland, putting themselves on the line for it.
3.Visitation . There are three important elements in the life of a person that strengthen society: God, homeland and family. These are the three axes that we must take care of if we want to foster a just society. We must be aware that God continues to give us signs and blesses our homeland. God visits you in the harvests, in the poor, and in the generosity of the people. God visits you in your community, and in your heart. What is your relationship with God like? What are you doing for your nation? Where does your family fit into your life today?
Remember that something good is on the way!
God bless you and protect you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
