Luke 21, 1-4

What do you offer to God?

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 21, 1-4

When Jesus looked up he saw some wealthy people
putting their offerings into the treasury
and he noticed a poor widow putting in two small coins.
He said, “I tell you truly,
this poor widow put in more than all the rest;
for those others have all made offerings from their surplus wealth,
but she, from her poverty, has offered her whole livelihood.”

What do you offer God?

1. Wealthy people. The Gospel refers to those who comply with their religious duties and give what is left over. There are people who give things just to comply, but they don’t give from their heart, with a humble attitude.  They like doing things to look good, so that people will talk about them. And it’s not only about material wealth, but also their “merits” and achievements. They are boastful, arrogant people, who do things as if they were doing God a favor. These people may become involved in God’s things, but their heart is elsewhere.

2. The widow. She offers all she has. She abandons herself to God. She cannot depend on herself, because she has nothing, so her security is placed in God. There are people who have a life of hardships. They have nothing and can’t rely on anything but God.  Today the widow gives us an example of true giving; of giving our life and our heart to the Lord. This implies offering your entire life and not the surplus of your life. God is with you at all times, in good times and in bad. That widow represents all the people who get up in the morning and entrust themselves to God; the people who say, “Jesus, I trust in you, because I can’t trust myself”.

3.  The widow. Think about what you give, about what you give from your heart, about what you can offer to God today. The foremost offering is to give of oneself to God. It would be good to ask yourself what you come to give him in your daily, constant struggle. We all know what we’re asking for, but what do we offer? I invite you to think of five things that you’re going to offer to God today, not of what you have left over, but of what you are and what you have.

Always remember that something good is on the way!

God bless you, be with you and protect you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
