Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew 11, 28-30
Jesus said to the crowds:
“Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened,
and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me,
for I am meek and humble of heart;
and you will find rest for yourselves.
For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.”
My burden is light
1. Come. Jesus invites you to be with Him. Having a close relationship with Jesus is what allows you to grow in life and to face the things that come your way. Obviously it’s difficult to follow Jesus, for the very fact that it’s a life option and a way of life: a committed and apostolic life of prayer and action. Like every option, it implies renunciations and taking a position. Today Jesus invites you to follow him, because He offers you protection. He wants you to be his.
2. Tired and burdened. We have a clear picture of what this means. We’re physically tired because of the kind of life we lead. It has overpowered us without giving us the possibility to pause and take a breath. We’re also burdened with the psychological and spiritual tiredness that we feel. When we don’t let our mind rest, or we don’t give our spirit the time to repose, we can feel overwhelmed. There were many blows, difficulties and weaknesses during this year. But for us Christians they are opportunities, possibilities to grow and to seek a way of life proposed to us by Jesus himself. You’re invited to surrender your weariness and afflictions to God. Today think about the things that afflict you or take away your peace.
3. Rest. Relief comes from God. Today He wants to relieve your soul of everything that takes away your peace. How many of us seek comfort and peace of heart! Search for God, He will alleviate your burden and soothe your pain. Let yourself feel that tender embrace that comes from the Lord’s loving arms. Today look around and discern what gives you tranquility and peace, and what takes it away. Look for those things that fulfil you. Seek God so He can be your consolation and strength.
Never forget that something good is on the way! God bless you, be with you and protect you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
