John 14, 7- 14

by Fr. Luis A. Zazano

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John 14, 7-14

Jesus said to his disciples:
“If you know me, then you will also know my Father.
From now on you do know him and have seen him.”
Philip said to Jesus,
“Master, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us.”
Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you for so long a time
and you still do not know me, Philip?
Whoever has seen me has seen the Father.
How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?
Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me?
The words that I speak to you I do not speak on my own.
The Father who dwells in me is doing his works.
Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me,
or else, believe because of the works themselves.
Amen, amen, I say to you,
whoever believes in me will do the works that I do,
and will do greater ones than these,
because I am going to the Father.
And whatever you ask in my name, I will do,
so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
If you ask anything of me in my name, I will do it.”

Whoever has seen me has seen the Father

1. To know. No one can love a person he does not know. Getting to know God is a process; every time you go deeper into the ways of God you discover beautiful things that involve affective and intellectual aspects in you. That’s so because when you feel something inside your heart and you know that it is something that comes from God, it’s so fulfilling that it makes you want to know and learn more and more. This is something beautiful and I hope it happens or has happened to you at some point, because the truth is that it changes your life.

2. Time. Time allows you to get to know people and time leads you to understand what each person is like. Therefore, loving God and loving people demands time. Because only time leads you to the truth and the truth shows itself over time.

3. Ask. In every relationship there can be love, and when there is love in a sincere relationship, there might be requests. But they’ll no longer be selfish or egocentric requests, but rather a desire to grow within oneself and for others. Today ask the Lord for what your heart needs to give yourself to others.

Remember that something good is on the way!

God bless you and be with you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
