Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John 13, 31-33a, 34-35
When Judas had left them, Jesus said,
“Now is the Son of Man glorified, and God is glorified in him.
If God is glorified in him,
God will also glorify him in himself,
and God will glorify him at once.
My children, I will be with you only a little while longer.
I give you a new commandment: love one another.
As I have loved you, so you also should love one another.
This is how all will know that you are my disciples,
if you have love for one another.”
The key is love
1. The significance of true love. When we first fall in love with someone, we focus only on his or her virtues. True love implies “recognizing imperfection”, accepting the person with all his or her defects. One of the points, if we read this Gospel, is that we’re afraid to fall in love, because in order to do so we look for specific characteristics in a person. Some people don’t fall in love with a person but with the perfect image they build of that person. To truly love is a risky venture, just look at the Crucified One. True love does not idealize the other person, because it’s also about loving imperfection.
2. All will know. Christ’s disciples must know how to love in this world, that’s why you and I can’t give up, even when we are hated and disliked. In this world we must create life and opportunities. Don’t let others destroy you by showing life as something meaningless, because you are the one who gives life its meaning.
3. Glory. Greatness in this life is to live in love, but I’m referring to good love, true love, real love. Love that has its feet on the ground and accepts others the way they are and not the way you’d like them to be. Fight for what you love, and you’ll achieve it by loving what you have around you.
Have a good Sunday!
Remember that something good is on the way!
God bless you and protect you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
