Matthew 6,19-23

by Fr. Luis A. Zazano

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew 6,19-23

Jesus said to his disciples:
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth,
where moth and decay destroy, and thieves break in and steal.
But store up treasures in heaven,
where neither moth nor decay destroys, nor thieves break in and steal.
For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be.

“The lamp of the body is the eye.
If your eye is sound, your whole body will be filled with light;
but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be in darkness.
And if the light in you is darkness, how great will the darkness be.”

Buy eternity

1. Do not store. Today, Jesus reminds you that your worries shouldn’t always revolve around material things. Thoughts about credit card limits, paying bills, whether to take out a loan, and so on always seem to occupy your mind. When your thoughts are consumed by numbers and buying and selling, you become dizzy, and your life turns into nothing more than working to pay instead of living to enjoy. Perhaps money or material things have led you to forget real happiness.

2. Your heart. What a beautiful question Jesus asks, “where is your heart?” Reflect on where your heart is today and what fulfils it. Jesus says that where your heart is, there your treasure will be. Maybe today is the day for you to take some time and listen to your heart to figure out where it stands.

3. Your eye. Is it healthy? Here’s the key: are you seeing life clearly? Are you truly aware of the life you’re living? This is at the core of your life’s struggle. If you know what you want and see it clearly, then move forward confidently. Slow down, take a step back, embrace silence, and listen to yourself.

Never forget that something good is on the way.

God bless you and protect you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
