Matthew 13, 24- 30

by Fr. Luis A. Zazano

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew 13, 24- 30

Jesus proposed a parable to the crowds.
“The Kingdom of heaven may be likened to a man
who sowed good seed in his field.
While everyone was asleep his enemy came
and sowed weeds all through the wheat, and then went off.
When the crop grew and bore fruit, the weeds appeared as well.
The slaves of the householder came to him and said,
‘Master, did you not sow good seed in your field?
Where have the weeds come from?’
He answered, ‘An enemy has done this.’
His slaves said to him, ‘Do you want us to go and pull them up?’
He replied, ‘No, if you pull up the weeds
you might uproot the wheat along with them.
Let them grow together until harvest;
then at harvest time I will say to the harvesters,
“First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles for burning;
but gather the wheat into my barn.”’

The wheat along with the weeds

1. Good seed. We all have something beautiful to give and share, to inspire good in others. I dare say that though everyone wants to cultivate the seed and make it produce, not everyone does. Self-awareness helps nurture what God has sown in your life so you can nourish others.

2. Weeds. Just like we all have something beautiful to share from the depths of our heart, we also have weaknesses and temptations. There are negative aspects in us—these are our failings. The key is to realize what they are and work on them, because we can actually make them stronger by feeding them. There’s a saying that goes “We all have good and bad inside us, and they’re always fighting. Which one wins? The one you feed the most.”

3. Time. There are things in you and in others that you end up knowing over time. People are not known by what they say they are, but by how they behave in life through their specific actions. Therefore, learn to look at those around you and understand that people are defined by their decisions and also by their actions: those who do good are kind, those who harm are not. Don’t let envy and pride feed the most negative part of you and learn to look at your actions rather than listen to your charms.

Don’t forget that something good is on the way!

God bless you and protect you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
