Matthew 19, 13- 15

by Fr. Luis A. Zazano

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew 19, 13- 15

Children were brought to Jesus
that he might lay his hands on them and pray.
The disciples rebuked them, but Jesus said,
“Let the children come to me, and do not prevent them;
for the Kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”
After he placed his hands on them, he went away.

Let Them Come

1. They rebuked them. How many of us have suffered because people who claimed to be close to Jesus pushed us away from him, even making us feel unworthy? I have a few stories about that, myself. However, the key for both you and me is to always seek to draw closer to Jesus. This holds true even when those who think they’re close try to push us away, either because they believe we’re trying to take over their power or because they tell us we’re not worthy. Let everyone come to Jesus, including those who don’t think like you or don’t live like you, because they’re looking for him and Jesus wants to reach them all. Remember, Jesus’s main message will always be that He came to seek everyone.

2. He laid his hands on them. How important this sign is for Christians! This is where we see the power and strength of the Holy Spirit. It appears in all the sacraments, and very strongly in baptism, confirmation and holy orders. It implies the infusion of the Holy Spirit, so you know that the power of the Spirit comes to you and dwells in you.  Jesus comes to bless your life and your day. He won’t abandon you or leave you behind, but it’s up to you to keep fighting and pushing through life to be with him. Today, Jesus wants to offer you a different perspective: the vision of feeling truly blessed.

3. Come. Jesus came to seek everyone. The key to being with Jesus isn’t about having special gifts, powers, or acquiring great wealth. Instead, to follow Jesus and allow him into your heart, the key is to be simple and humble. Jesus is the path, and you and I are invited to walk that path. It’s about living with him and like him.

Remember that something good is on the way!

God bless you and protect you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
