Luke 10, 38-42

by Fr. Luis A. Zazano

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 10, 38-42

Jesus entered a village
where a woman whose name was Martha welcomed him.
She had a sister named Mary
who sat beside the Lord at his feet listening to him speak.
Martha, burdened with much serving, came to him and said,
“Lord, do you not care
that my sister has left me by myself to do the serving?
Tell her to help me.”
The Lord said to her in reply,
“Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things.
There is need of only one thing.
Mary has chosen the better part
and it will not be taken from her.”

Mary and Martha

1. He entered. Jesus is a trailblazer, He always takes the initiative, but you must let him into your life. God respects your freedom and finds a way to reach you, but you’re the one who has to tear down your prejudices and barriers. I understand that sometimes, because of certain fanatical Christians, you’ve looked at Christian life with a sideways glance, believing that to receive Jesus, you had to follow a bunch of rules and laws. But today, Jesus’s goal is for you to receive him and let him into your life. The key isn’t to do a lot of things to have Jesus with you; it’s to let Jesus handle things so you can have him.

2. Martha. I’d like to pause here to think about all the people who live a fast paced life. It’s not that we don’t have time to enjoy ourselves; it’s that we don’t make time to do so. Our busy lives and constant phone use keep us from spending time on things and with people who are good for us. They might even come into our lives to add value, yet we neglect them to attend to other things that aren’t as important. Maybe it’s time for you to think about what your priorities are.

3. Mary. We must learn how to look for people and things that are good for us. This doesn’t involve having a passive attitude but rather having the ability to be open to receiving help and learning from others.  We must have the strength to recognize that we need other people. It’s about understanding that we can’t do everything on our own and that we must always allow someone to help and instruct us.

Today let’s remember Our Lady of the Holy Rosary and pray the rosary for the glory of our Lord. This powerful prayer also helps us develop a stronger relationship with God through meditating on the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus.

“Our Lady of the Rosary, who helps us see the saving work of God in our own lives—pray for us!”

Remember that something good is on the way!

God bless you and be with you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
