Luke 11, 27- 28

by Fr. Luis A. Zazano

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 11, 27-28

While Jesus was speaking,
a woman from the crowd called out and said to him,
“Blessed is the womb that carried you
and the breasts at which you nursed.”
He replied, “Rather, blessed are those
who hear the word of God and observe it.”

Blessed those who observe the word

1. Called out. You must be aware that you must speak up and learn how and when to say what needs to be said. You must face things and not stay silent. Don’t let the silence of misunderstanding stop you from saying what you really need to say and from facing what you need to face. It’s important to speak and, above all, to name the things that are happening to you. Don’t let everything fall apart in your life just because you stay quiet. Calling out is about defining things; it’s about being able to express what you’re going through and what you feel.

2. The crowd. Being constantly busy and involved in a million things makes it challenging to remain true to yourself. When you’re always surrounded by people and living a hectic life, you can end up losing yourself or even feeling isolated within a crowd. Don’t let busyness and always being surrounded by others make you forget who you are and so lose your essence.

3. Blessed. Today is a tribute to Mary, not only because she is Jesus’s mother, but also for the faith that she inspires. In Mary we learn to trust and have faith, to be servants of the Lord in order to live in that same freedom that the Lord himself gives us. This reminds us that we are called to share our faith and make our lives a constant process of discernment and thought, so we can fulfill God’s will.

Never forget that something good is on the way!

God bless you and be with you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
