Luke 12, 35-38

by Fr. Luis A. Zazano

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 12, 35-38

Jesus said to his disciples:
“Gird your loins and light your lamps
and be like servants who await their master’s return from a wedding,
ready to open immediately when he comes and knocks.
Blessed are those servants
whom the master finds vigilant on his arrival.
Amen, I say to you, he will gird himself,
have them recline at table, and proceed to wait on them.
And should he come in the second or third watch
and find them prepared in this way,
blessed are those servants.”

Be prepared

1. Girded and lamp lit. This means to be dressed ready for service and keeping your lamps burning. In other words, be prepared!  You can’t allow yourself to be slack in your life, don’t neglect what’s important to focus on what’s urgent. Remember that your life depends on your own decisions and just as there was a beginning to your life on earth, there’s also an end; but you don’t know when it’ll be. So, be aware that your life is unique, and that you are writing it. Pay attention to the way you live and make good decisions.

2. Open up. God is always coming to your life, and it’s good for you to have an open heart to welcome him in. Discard the way you’ve closed off your heart and the bitterness you feel about life. Open yourself to the new things and the new perspectives that God is offering you. Through the Holy Spirit, He wants to give you a new breath, new air. Let yourself be seized by the Spirit of God so that He may heal your wounds, because He makes all things new.

3. He will wait on them. God is mindful of you. His love is so great that He’ll never leave you. How wonderful it is to feel God’s love!  I propose that today you ask the Lord to help you feel his love. Find a moment during the day when He can help you have a time of calm and solitude, so that you can feel the soft breeze of God’s presence in you.  Don’t lose heart, God has prepared great things for your life, keep going!

Remember that something good is on the way!

God bless you and be with you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
