Matthew 13,47-53

by Fr. Luis A. Zazano
Matthew 13, 47-53

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew 13,47-53.

Jesus said to the disciples: “The Kingdom of heaven is like a net thrown into the sea, which collects fish of every kind.
When it is full they haul it ashore and sit down to put what is good into buckets. What is bad they throw away.
Thus it will be at the end of the age. The angels will go out and separate the wicked from the righteous
and throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.
Do you understand all these things? They answered, “Yes.”
And he replied, “Then every scribe who has been instructed in the kingdom of heaven is like the head of a household who brings from his storeroom both the new and the old.”
When Jesus finished these parables, he went away from there.

The Old and The New.

  1. Planting and Receiving: In your everyday life, there are always moments you can either plant or receive. You can receive the smile of your spouse or children, or maybe greetings from a stranger. There is always something in your day that will leave a footprint; that will be like a small seed of something new to contribute to your life. That’s why you should not end your day without asking yourself, what did I learn today that might be speaking to me? Think about it, because there is always something you can receive.
  2. Throw away what’s bad: Today make time to think about your life. You cannot continue carrying so much weight, it only weighs you down from experiencing the life God wants you to have. Discard whatever is not letting you continue, because the garbage in your life will only end up smelling; it is time to let go of some of that weight. It is necessary that you stop and start looking at what’s good and what needs to be thrown away. Only you can do the work, nobody else can. And if you don’t do it you will end up too tired to live your life and the ‘garbage’ will only leave a bad smell that no one will want to be around.
  3. He walked away from there: There are times when you have to walk away from everything and make space for yourself. Before and after you make decisions, private space is important. It’s good to walk away, it’s good to take time and space for yourself. This also applies when we show someone something in their lives that they may need to discard. We need to walk away and let them process the information. If we stay, we may take on their baggage thinking it will help them. It won’t. Not only does it not help them process, but we then take on more ‘garbage.’

God bless you and be with you, in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
…and do not forget: Heaven is Our Goal!
