Luke 9,18-22

by Fr. Luis A. Zazano

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 9,18-22

Once when Jesus was praying in solitude, and the disciples were with him, he asked them, “Who do the crowds say that I am?” They said in reply, “John the Baptist; others, Elijah; still others, ‘One of the ancient prophets has arisen.'” Then he said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter said in reply, “The Messiah of God.” He rebuked them and directed them not to tell this to anyone.
He said, “The Son of Man must suffer greatly and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed and on the third day be raised.”

Your identity

1)Who am I ?: This is the question that Jesus asks, but it is also the question we should ask ourself : “Who am I?” Which experiences have lead you to become who you are today ? Are you happy with who you are? It’s possible that you have turned into someone you never imagined; someone you might not want to be… but, it is still possible to change your life, think about it. Life can surprise you ! Work hard to become who you want to be !

2) Some people say: People tend to put labels on you. It always happens! They put labels on me and everyone !They talk about what you have done, and how you did it. You can separate yourself from their comments and keep going with your own life, but if you allow those labels or judgements to get under your skin and affect you, you might end up changing. You might start living just to please them so they can’t say anything bad about you anymore. But that’s not who you are. If you change, you lose the most beautiful things you have : your authenticity, your identity, your liberty. You enslave your deepest self to hide from their judging looks and live to please them, even though you are unhappy. That is not living.

3)Suffer: When you have a clear vision about who you are, it will enlighten your path in life. Following God’s will for your life and being authentic has a price to pay. Living passionately in God’s abundance is worth any cost. Jesus clearly stated what was going to happen to Him, but at the end, He says He will be raised from the dead. Many times in life the problems that come up torment us, but do not be afraid. As long as you are living God’s will in your life and being your true self, you know the end of the story: You will be resurrected, You Win ! The victory of your life comes after the cross. You are important and worthy! Remember who you truly are, and the rest will pass.
God-bless you in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit… and remember heaven is our goal.
