Mark 1, 40 – 45

by Fr. Luis A. Zazano

A leper came to him and kneeling down begged him and said, “If you wish, you can make me clean.”
Moved with pity, he stretched out his hand, touched him, and said to him, “I do will it. Be made clean.”
The leprosy left him immediately, and he was made clean.
Then, warning him sternly, he dismissed him at once.
Then he said to him, “See that you tell no one anything, but go, show yourself to the priest and offer for your cleansing what Moses prescribed; that will be proof for them.”
The man went away and began to publicize the whole matter. He spread the report abroad so that it was impossible for Jesus to enter a town openly. He remained outside in deserted places, and people kept coming to him from everywhere.

The reckless leper

1) Leprosy: Today there are spiritual lepers. People who have deep, raw wounds that hurt. Because they are hurt and haven’t healed, they end up hurting those who get near them. That is why they isolate themselves or are isolated by others. They even stink ; they are toxic, because all they do is make others feel bad, and create moments of tension. They don’t enjoy life and they don’t let others enjoy life either. They even make you feel bad about things you have nothing to do with. I must ask Jesus to heal me from this too, because there are times when I behave this way with those around me. I might upset others, or I just try to be surrounded by those who say something nice, just to find something wrong, and make them be concerned so that they are not so happy. Heal me Jesus!

2) Do not say: Today prudence is one of the virtues we must work hard on. Knowing there are times when you can say certain things and times when you should be silent. Just look at what you write and publish on social networks ! Check what you talk about and with whom. There are times when our tongue is so bitter … even learning how to change the subject when the talk gets a little hard, or knowing how to tell when they just want to get information about someone else. Prudence …is so necessary today.
3) Desert: That moment of solitude that Jesus finds in the deserted place strengthens Him and His relationship with the crowd. How important it is to spend time alone! Don’t let hyper-activity lead you to forget about yourself. Find your space and your time; your moment to be alone. This will only lead you to a have a good relationship with others later. And … as I promised: the three pillars of the Church are: SACRED SCRIPTURE, TRADITION, and MAGISTERIUM.
God bless you in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Remember, heaven is our goal !
