Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Mark 8,11-13
The Pharisees came forward and began to argue with Jesus, seeking from him a sign from heaven to test him.
He sighed from the depth of his spirit and said, “Why does this generation seek a sign? Amen, I say to you, no sign will be given to this generation.”
Then he left them, got into the boat again, and went off to the other shore.
Your life is a sign
1) Discussion: the term “discuss” is defined as: to examine a theme and propose reasonable arguments in order to explain it or solve it. But today, it seems what we do instead of discuss, is to try and impose our own ideas. Sometimes we are closed minded and just want to win…forcing our own ideas on others. In your life’s vocation; your marriage, or profession… do you discuss matters or are you trying to impose your own way? Look at your life and your attitudes. Don’t be a Christian who always has to win the argument!
2)Signs: Think about all the things you take for granted everyday. God speaks to you through simple things. Stop worrying about all you need to do …you will see signs that confirm that you are on the right path; the path which leads you to true happiness. For example: if you know that every time you get together with a certain person it ends up badly, realize that that person will not lead to your happiness. On the other hand, if you feel peace in a certain place or happy with a certain person, that is a sign that God has put you there. Analyze your life; look for the fruits that come from these situations, and pay attention to the signs.
3) Do not stay: Sometimes your brain spins around and around recalculating like a GPS. Keep going ! This reminds me of a story of 2 monks: Luis and Rodrigo. While they walked back towards their monastery, they saw a girl in a bikini shouting for help. Luis went to help her, but Rodrigo said “No- be careful because she is young, and beautiful, and that is a temptation to us.” Luis went to help, and carried her home. As they continued on their way to the monastery, Rodrigo complained and criticised Luis for helping the beautiful girl in the bikini. Luis just walked in silence. When they arrived, Rodrigo hurried to tell the superior the whole story. The superior asked Luis, “Did you carry that girl all the way home?” “Yes I did Father.” said Luis. ” I carried her to her home and left her there, but it’s too bad that Rodrigo has carried her, in his mind, all the way here!” Be careful what you have in your brain. Learn to clear your mind and not carry around old problems. Let’s go ! Remember, heaven is our goal ! God-bless you in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
