Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 1,26-38
In the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a town of Galilee called Nazareth,
to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the house of David, and the virgin’s name was Mary.
And coming to her, he said, “Hail, full of grace! The Lord is with you.”
But she was greatly troubled at what was said and pondered what sort of greeting this might be.
Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.
Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus.
He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father,
and he will rule over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.”
But Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I have no relations with a man?”
And the angel said to her in reply, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore the child to be born will be called holy, the Son of God.
And behold, Elizabeth, your relative, has also conceived a son in her old age, and this is the sixth month for her who was called barren;
for nothing will be impossible for God.”
Mary said, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word.” Then the angel departed from her.
Mary the servant
1) A committed woman: Mary already had everything planned out for her life, and from one day to the next everything changed… everything! Something like what is happening to us today. We realize that we are not the masters of anything, that in the blink of an eye everything we’ve planned can fall apart. We had a full, organized agenda in our lives and “Mr. Coronavirus” came along and unplanned everything all at once. But we must learn from all this. We are not the masters of time, or even of our lives.
2) Rejoice: Today you are invited to live the joy that is optimism! That is to have a positive attitude towards living. Be a person with enthusiasm for life. Don’t let those Whatsapp messages saturate the memory of your phone or the memory in your head. Enough of listening to that ! Enough of so much information!! Today, go back to joy and trust. But not to trusting in the Chinese or Americans for some vaccine, trust in yourself. True Joy comes from trusting in yourself.
3) Be fulfilled: Mary knows how to put her hope in God. She does not understand what’s happening, but she trusts and abandons herself into God’s hands. We don’t know how all this came about, but we do know that God continues to work in all this and, that something different will appear later, after this situation. There is a before and an after. Trust that something good is coming!
God-bless you in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Never forget, heaven is our goal !
