Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John 20, 1-9
On the first day of the week,
Mary of Magdala came to the tomb early in the morning,
while it was still dark,
and saw the stone removed from the tomb.
So she ran and went to Simon Peter
and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and told them,
“They have taken the Lord from the tomb,
and we don’t know where they put him.”
So Peter and the other disciple went out and came to the tomb.
They both ran, but the other disciple ran faster than Peter
and arrived at the tomb first;
he bent down and saw the burial cloths there, but did not go in.
When Simon Peter arrived after him,
he went into the tomb and saw the burial cloths there,
and the cloth that had covered his head,
not with the burial cloths but rolled up in a separate place.
Then the other disciple also went in,
the one who had arrived at the tomb first,
and he saw and believed.
For they did not yet understand the Scripture
that he had to rise from the dead.
They ran
1) It was still dark. Today our hearts and our faith are alive but it is still dark. The light is not full because we cannot go out and uncertainty strikes us. There is that struggle between what I believe and what I feel, between the love that I receive from God and where I still struggle. My faith and my heart say that Jesus is alive and present, but my thoughts and the media drill my head. That is why I am still between darkness and light, but I know something is going on inside me, I know that God is with me, that God is here.
2) Run to the encounter: Today we must take that step. Go out to make an encounter. Make a call today to that person who needs you or to someone you simply want to wish the best: Life. Easter is that: “the passage from death to life.” Today you and I are rising to life, and we must help so many who are stuck and do not know where to go to pass from death to life. Let us go out to meet them and bring them Life, bring them encouragement, bring them enthusiasm, and bring them faith.
3) To run. Run out to proclaim the Good News, knowing that this Holy Week, this Easter, has been different. It has marked us and challenged us. God makes all things new and leads us to Himself. He wants us to seek Him. Today let us toast to Life and happiness. But today I ask you, at noon when you are at the table with your family and you raise your cup to toast, for whom are you going to toast?
God bless you and be with you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. And always remember, Heaven is our goal!
