Luke 11, 29-32

by Fr. Luis A. Zazano

Holy gospel of Jesus Christ according to Luke 11, 29-32

When the crowds were increasing, Jesus began to say, “This generation is an evil generation; it asks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah. For just as Jonah became a sign to the people of Nineveh, so the Son of Man will be to this generation. The queen of the South will rise at the judgment with the people of this generation and condemn them, because she came from the ends of the earth to listen to the wisdom of Solomon, and see, something greater than Solomon is here! The people of Nineveh will rise up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, because they repented at the proclamation of Jonah, and see, something greater than Jonah is here!”

Lent is a time for conversion

1) Convert. We must take advantage of the Lenten season to change; there are things in your life  that cannot continue the way they are. What makes life harder is that you become a lukewarm person and you lack the decision to convert, to become a better person. But even worse is not caring, making up lies to cover up your situation.

2) Look. You must look for the signs God gives you in your life; signs of things you must change, and signs that require a close examination on your part. Some of the signs may be ‘living examinations of conscience’. You must make a conscious choice. You must take on your part and accept the challenge.

3) Everyday life. We must try to change every day and the struggle for this is constant. Conversion is a daily path that is accomplished by the minute. We must confront the problems like a boxing match. The first one that throws a punch is not the one who wins; it’s the person who resists and knows where and when to hit that wins the match. Do not look at the blows that you have received, instead, look where and when to hit to win the fight of your sanctification. God bless you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Never forget that Heaven is our goal.
