Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew 11,20-24
Jesus began to reproach the towns
where most of his mighty deeds had been done,
since they had not repented.
“Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida!
For if the mighty deeds done in your midst
had been done in Tyre and Sidon,
they would long ago have repented in sackcloth and ashes.
But I tell you, it will be more tolerable
for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you.
And as for you, Capernaum:
Will you be exalted to heaven?
You will go down to the netherworld.
For if the mighty deeds done in your midst had been done in Sodom,
it would have remained until this day.
But I tell you, it will be more tolerable
for the land of Sodom on the day of judgment than for you.”
Conversion of the heart
1) Reproach. Perhaps today you need to sit down and look at your life. Maybe today Jesus is coming to reprimand you for everything He is doing for you and giving you, but you don’t realize it. Sometimes you don’t notice everything that God is giving you in your life, so that you can enjoy it; instead, you keep on looking at what you lack or what you do not have. Today, I also feel that God is telling me: “Hey Luis, I’m making it easy for you, I’m giving you everything so that you can score a goal, but you keep looking at the stands, at that fan who insulted you”. Something like that might happen to us in life. You have everything you need to enjoy each day, to live and to do well, but you keep going round in circles with things that happened to you in the past or with situations that hurt you.
2) Converted. The word “convert” comes from Latin “convertere” meaning: “to turn around; to transform.” Conversion is also related to the Greek word “metanoia”, which means a transformative change of heart, especially a spiritual conversion. You and I need to change, to make a turn in life. You cannot be the same as you’ve always been because life itself is dynamic. Life has its moments, and they make you change. Friends disappear and others appear. Your way of thinking changes; your relatives change. You have to change little things that are not working in you. You have to be sincere because there are things that you are sticking to because you are arrogant or selfish, but deep down you know that you have to let them go because they do not lead you anywhere. Strive to make that change and to let go of what does not lead you to anything good.
3) Miracles. Your life is a miracle and every day you see miracles around you! There are so many things that happen daily and appear in your life that come from God, but you may not recognize them because they are tiny, simple things. There are miracles in the simplicity of the day. The miracle of having two hands and two feet; of being able to walk and talk; of being with someone who loves you; the miracle of having something to eat… So many things! The miracle of being free, of being able to make decisions for yourself. Today, look and become aware of all the miracles in your life. And then, take a moment to notice what it is you have to change; what you must let go of. Tell me today, what leads you today to say to yourself: “I have to change”?
God bless you and be with you, in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
Remember that something good is on the way!
