Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Mark 6, 1- 6

Jesus departed from there and came to his native place,
accompanied by his disciples.
When the sabbath came he began to teach in the synagogue,
and many who heard him were astonished.
They said, “Where did this man get all this?
What kind of wisdom has been given him?
What mighty deeds are wrought by his hands!
Is he not the carpenter, the son of Mary,
and the brother of James and Joseph and Judas and Simon?
And are not his sisters here with us?”
And they took offense at him.
Jesus said to them,
“A prophet is not without honor except in his native place
and among his own kin and in his own house.”
So he was not able to perform any mighty deed there,
apart from curing a few sick people by laying his hands on them.
He was amazed at their lack of faith.

Everyday life

1. To his hometown. Returning to our origins heals and cheers us up. The story of St John Bosco, whose memory we celebrate today, comes to my mind… when he suffered a great crisis both in his health and in his faith, Don Cafasso, who was his spiritual director, sent him home to share time with his mother, Margarita. This cheered him up and restored him, to the extent that he proposed that she go with him to work with the children. Anyway, what I am getting at is that going back to our origins heals, revives, and strengthens you. Today I propose that you return, even if only spiritually, to your origin, to remember your home, your family, to remember the smell of homemade food and remember the person who cooked it for you with so much love. Go back to what made you who you are today.

2) Astonished. Never stop working and doing good; of course, you will always be talked about and criticized. But come back to your essence: remember that you have a mission and there are people who depend on you and need you. You still have great things to give and to do, but don’t back down when people start to criticize you. Come on! Look at the cross and remember what He did.

3) Faith: There are two gifts that you have been given and that you must always remember, because they are two great elements in your life: faith and freedom. These two things are non-negotiable. Take care of and nurture your faith, abandon yourself in God’s hands, but also conform your heart to him and build your relationship with him. On the other hand, take care of your freedom, God made you free. Do not let anyone enslave your life with their ideas.

Remember that something good is on the way!

God bless you and be with you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
