Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John 3, 7b-15
Jesus said to Nicodemus:”‘You must be born from above.’The wind blows where it wills, and you can hear the sound it makes,but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes;so it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”Nicodemus answered and said to him,’How can this happen?”Jesus answered and said to him,”You are the teacher of Israel and you do not understand this?Amen, amen, I say to you,we speak of what we know and we testify to what we have seen,but you people do not accept our testimony.If I tell you about earthly things and you do not believe,how will you believe if I tell you about heavenly things?No one has gone up to heavenexcept the one who has come down from heaven, the Son of Man.And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert,so must the Son of Man be lifted up,so that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.”
Born from above
1. The Spirit. Jesus reminds us that being born again implies coming back to the freedom of the children of God and remembering that God makes us free, because whoever truly meets Christ lives in freedom. But it’s true to say that we are always tied down to structures that each of us builds up. This is a curious aspect of humans, we build structures to live well, and at the beginning everything goes fine, but later on this structure asphyxiates us because we are unable to abandon it, or we become dependent on it. We often live to comply, and we do not live a plentiful life. In the religious aspect, this also happens to us when we forget God and only remember the structures.
2) Testimony. We are invited to take a serious look at our lives and decide to live in the awareness that God is always participating in our lives. Don’t stop striving to live life abundantly, just as Jesus promised, and make sure to observe what God is doing in your life. Being born again implies giving testimony of what God is doing in us and with us.
3) Eternal life. Remember to look up to heaven. Your objective is to be happy. You have a higher goal to look forward to, and that is to reach heaven. Heaven, where there are no structures, no suffocation, where there is life in all its fullness.
